A gleaming symbol of abundance and good fortune, freshwater pearls and a glass stone horseshoe pendant will summon gales of good luck. Believed to be magic because the horseshoe could withstand fire, the legend of the lucky horseshoe has its roots in the 10th Century village of Mayfield in Sussex, England. A hermit blacksmith named Dunstan was approached by the devil in disguise, looking for a new shoe for his injured hoof.  Dunstan recognized the goblin's guise and drove a hot nail into the cloven foot and made the screaming demon promise to never enter a threshold protected by a horseshoe.
