Just outside of the old walls of Galway, Ireland  lies a small fishing village known as Claddagh. In the 17th century, a fisherman, Richard Joyce, was captured by Algerian pirates and taken into slavery in Africa, where he worked for a Moorish silversmith. He longed for his betrothed at home and created the iconic ring. Once set free, he sailed back and presented the clasped hands and crowned heart ring to his true love who faithfully waited for his return. The hands represent friendship, the heart is love and the crown is loyalty. Cast from an antique in copper with sterling silver plated veneer. Available in sizes 6,7, 8,and 9.
