A lovely tin oil lamp was rescued from a small Provençal village, electrified and replicated for future generations to shine a light upon the past. Each is an original bearing hand-painted flowers upon black tin. Tole painting is the old European folk art of applying paint to tin that originated in the 18th century. Trays and coffeepots still survive the years and bring a pretty penny. The term originates from the French for "painted tin" (tole peinte).
